The Vine Greek Taverna

The Vine Greek Taverna was visited on 6-14-13

(I apologize for not posting forever, but I will make it up over the summer.)

Service:
We were greeted by the owner and was quite satisfied with the mood of all the staff.

Food:
We ordered a Greek salad, veggie pita, and a chicken pita. The sides were rice and Greek fries. The salad was crisp and the proper term for this would be "same look, better taste", I guess. The veggie pitas had a lot of veggies and the cheese was not to overpowering. The cheese was Haloumi cheese and it had a perfect balance of saltiness. The chicken pita was moist, flavorful, spiced right and the pita was warm and not soggy. The fries were covered in feta cheese and herbs make the fries Greek. The fries went well with the pita sandwiches and went even better with Sriracha, which proves that this Thai hot sauce goes well with most things. The rice was very well cooked and you could taste the butter. The dessert was a baklava like thing which had a custard in the middle. The custard tasted like anise. Anise tastes like licorice and I hate licorice. That was the one thing that my family disliked.

Price:

It was approx. $50, which was expensive for 3 people.

Overall:

I think that the Vine Greek Taverna deserves a 90% because of the blah ambiance and he dessert was not good.

Snack Attack

This article is to commemorate my 1,000 page views ... All my supporters are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 El Rancho Grande:

We go to this bustling Mexican market because they have the best produce, not to mention their amazing sweets and popular cafe.... After we get our groceries, we stand by this little stall that has a blue umbrella which quotes" Nachos y Elotes" Elotes means corn. The way they make their corn is not only unique, but also really yummy looking. Here are the steps:
  • Cut off all the kernels. The corn must be boiled.
  • Put butter in the cup.
  • Take the corn and put in the buttered cup.
  • Lather on more sour cream, butter, and cheese.
  • Then add any seasonings, like lemon pepper or valentina, a Spanish hot sauce.

Rosa's Tortilla Cafe

Rosa's Tortilla Cafe was visited on 3-9-13

Service:
The service was okay. The ladies who took the orders were very rude and made us order quickly.

Food:

Rosa's does not have many vegetarian options. We ordered 2 cheese enchiladas in a red sauce. The cheese inside the enchiladas were gummy and hard. The tortillas were soft and very tasty.

Price:
For 2 enchiladas and a drink it was $13.That was very expensive.

Overall:
Rosa's Tortilla Cafe gets a 87% because of their weird, gummy cheese.

Saffron Sky

* I just want to let all my followers know that I will be limiting my posts to only a few times a month because of all the preparation for testing....

Saffron Sky was visited on 3-1-13.

Service:
The waitresses were very friendly and they seated us as soon as we walked in.There were only 2 waitresses so I think it was hard for them to cope with all the orders.

Food:
We ordered the chicken tawook, which is like a a shish kabob in a pita. The tawook meat was flavored nicely and was very moist. There was a perfect texture contrast from the crunchy pickle and the soft pita bread. We also got the tabouli and baba ganoush sandwich. The tabouli was chock-full of parsley lettuce and tomatoes. The baba ganoush was smooth and creamy. I ordered the hummus and falfafel sandwich.Unlike most falafel sandwiches, the falafel in this one was really moist. The hummus was thick and had the perfect consistency. We also got rice with the sandwiches. The rice was bland and flavorless. In the end, not the best sides ever.  After dinner we just had to order the the pistachio baklava. It was moist and not to overwhelmingly sweet.

Price:

For all of the dishes it was $30. The price wasn't that expensive.

Overall:
Saffron Sky received an 93% because of the minor mistakes.

Nagoya Japanese Restaurant

Nagoya Japanese Restaurant was visited on 1-19-13

Service:
It was a very nicely decorated restaurant and in the middle of all of the tables their was this big flattop grill. Our waitresses were very efficient and very nice. But we did have to wait for a really long time.

Food:

Since we're vegetarians, going to a Japanese restaurant is about as weird as juggling in a attic. We ordered the vegetarian combo. First came the salad which was drenched in rice wine vinegar, which had a very pungent, tangy, and refreshing kick to it. Then came the miso soup. Miso is a fermented paste made of soybeans. The soup had a queer burnt taste but still had good flavor. After this, the hibachi chef came and he was very quick in sauteing all the vegetables. He handed out this ginger and galangal sauce which was sweet and strong. The veggies that were in the dish were broccoli, onions, squash, mushrooms, bell pepper and a whole plethora of other goodies! The vegetables were not spicy at all, but very bland. After the main course, we got the banana tempura. It was soft and not crispy on the outside

Price:

For 8 people it was $160. For the food it was a little much.

Overall:
Nagoya Japanese Restaurant earned an 88% because we had for at least an hour. The hibachi chef was very nice and very funny.

Saravana Bhavan

Saravana Bhavan was visited on 1-6-13

Service:
Usually when there is a big crowd, the service is great, and the food is exceptional. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. We were seated right next to the cashier booth and she was yelling out orders, which was unpleasant.

Food:
We ordered the Saravana special dosa, mysore masala dosa, and chhole batura.
The dosas were crispy, but the dosa itself was very salty. The peas and potato masala was very salty. The batura was poofy, just the way I like it! But the chhole was spicy and way too salty for my liking. WE also ordered salt lassis and one mango lassi. The salt lassi was thick and creamy. The mango lassi was not overwhelmingly sweet, but rather subtle.

Price:
$50 for all the food. Really expensive!!!!

Overall:
I would give Saravana Bhavan an 82% because of their overpriced and over-salty food!!

Woodlands Vegetarian Indian Cuisine

Woodlands was visited on 12-30-12.

Service:
There was a huge wait with almost 50 people. When there was a table open, the waiter was really rude and got impatient when we took our time to order.

Food:
The sambar vada needed to be cooked more because it's supposed to be crispy. The onion rava masala dosa was crispy, but the masala itself lacked salt. The sambar shadam was disgusting. The sambar powder was thrown on at last minute and the rice wasn't even cooked. The only good thing about Woodlands was the salt lassi. There was a good ratio between salt and buttermilk.

Price:
Definitely not worth it. About 10-15 dollars per dish.

Overall:

Woodlands was a terrible experience and I will never go there again. I haven;t tried the north Indian dishes because everyone has them and south Indian food is a little rare. Woodlands got a 69%, not even a passing grade. The next time I go to Woodlands, it'll be in India.

Habanero's Mexican Grill

Habanero's Mexican Grill was visited on 12-29-12

Service:
The waitress was friendly, nice, and inviting towards us.

Food:
Sincronizada was essentially a quesadilla, but unlike a quesadilla,it didn't have much cheese and had a lot of vegetables. The spanish rice had a lot of spice and was quite different than boxed Spanish rice. The chile relleno was really cheesy, but had a lot of flavor. The habanero salsa was really spicy, or as my dad put it: " a kick in the pants!!".

Price:
The price was $8-$10 per entree.

Overall:
Habanero's earned a 92%, so an A+. Their food was great, but the issue was that there was always a subtle difference if the same dish was ordered twice.

Anacapri Pizzeria

Hi people! I just got back from an amazing Christmas break in Florida, but more about that later!!! And also, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!

Anacapri Pizzeria was visited on 12-28-12.

Service:
Our waitress was friendly and welcoming.

Food:
Garlic bread: soft and fluffy.
Marinara sauce: rich and flavorful. This sauce was chock full of herbs and complex spices.
Veggie pizza: lacked salt, but had a lot of veggies.
Eggplant Parmigiana sub: needed more eggplant because there was one piece for the whole sandwich.
Margerita pizza: nice flavors, but it was a little too cheesy.
Spaghetti: pasta was al dente, but there was a little too much sauce. The sauce was a little watery.
Stuffed shells: had a little too much sauce, but had a nice texture contrast.

Price:
The price was $70 for 7 people, so, a little too expensive.

Overall:
89%, so a B+. That's not that bad!!
